Step 4: Goal Setting

Look at the results from the first three steps. If you did an honest assessment, you’ll likely know more about yourself than you ever thought possible. You are clear about what you are passionate about, what you want to do and the type of career you want. Now comes the hard part. You must define specific goals to help you achieve a fulfilling career.

There are many books and websites dedicated to goal setting. I’m not going to detail the goal setting process since there is plenty of great information out there already. Go to Amazon.com and Google and search for ‘Setting Goals” and you’ll find a plethora of resources. However, here is a handy Goal Setting Worksheet that might be helpful.

The essence of this step is to determine your career and personal goals. What do you want to do one, two, five or even ten years from now?

The next steps is to craft a plan.

Seps 5: The Plan

It is great to list your goals, but unless you have a plan to implement them, goals are useless. After you’ve set your goals, you must determine how to achieve them. The Goal Setting Worksheet will help you take each goal and craft next steps to achieving that goal. Use one planning sheet for each one, two, five and ten year goal.

As mentioned before, there are many sites specialized in goal attainment. I suggest you look at those sites and books of similar ilk.
